Sun shines as runners shone

The sun shone brightly over the Corfe Mullen Recreation Ground on Tuesday the 7th June for the 2nd annual Carnival Fun Run. Almost 300 runners took part in the two race event watched by crowds of supporters cheering on the competitors to the finish line. The event, sponsored by Holmes Place Health Club, raised money for the Carnival’s nominated charities: Julia’s House and the Phellips Charity.

First to go were the youngsters, all aged between eight and fourteen years. Fourteen year old Havery Jones from Corfe Mullen came out top in this event in an impressive time of 5 minutes, 20 seconds for the 1 mile dash to the line. The first girl to finish was Nicole Bissett from Blandford in a time of 6 minutes, 9 seconds.

Next to go were the seniors in a two lap, 5km circuit of the sports ground. First to finish in this event was fifteen year old Torsten Chandler from Broadstone in a time of 16 minutes, 28 seconds. The under twenties had yet more to celebrate when 17 year old Vicki Ingram, also from Broadstone, clinched the female honours in a time of 18 minutes, 37 seconds.

Corfe Mullen residents Katie Hooper, from Chapel Lane and Jason Robbins from Springdale Road both won three course meals for two, courtesy of the Lambs Green Inn for being the first Corfe Mulleners to cross the line.
